MLK School site of great Social Injustice

Wed Feb 27, 2008 at 05:31:37 AM PDT

I am outraged! I am not sure I can find the correct words to describe what I feel!

In my home town of Hopkinsville Kentucky there is a scandal brewing. At the newest $15 million Martin Luther King Jr Elementary School the 3rd grade teachers have proven just how destructive the Republican's policy on torture and extraordinary rendition has been on society as a whole.

Ex-Alabama Governor given a taste of Republican double standard

Mon Feb 25, 2008 at 03:10:01 PM PDT

I have tried very hard to stay out of the political arena lately, but this story was the straw that broke the camel's back.

I have known for some time that the Republicans that currently hold the highest office in the land were without honor or even morals, but I really did not believe that even they could stoop to this level. I guess after Gitmo I should not be surprised.

Open letter to President Bush

Wed Oct 17, 2007 at 03:29:20 PM PDT

Mr. President,

America has spoken. You have claimed throughout your presidency that you would always listen to those that elected you and that you would keep the best interest of the country at heart. Well, Mr. President, today is the day to put up or shut up.

America has long endured your wars of greed or misplaced desire to restore your father's honor. America has long endured your lies and misrepresentations. America has long endured your criminal administration and your illegal activities. But no more.

Kent State Memorial

Fri May 04, 2007 at 03:17:13 PM PDT

Travel with me for a moment to the Kent State University campus. It was May 4, 1970 and the Vietnam War was being waged both in Vietnam and here at home.

Protesters of the war had been marching for some time now and young men and women in college followed suit with protest on college campuses nationwide. Many expected to be arrested or at most saturated with tear gas. No one expected to die that day on the campus of Kent State.

But four students did loose their lives that day. In an atrocity that ranks up there with Abu Ghraib and the My Lai massacre, National Guard troops in Ohio opened fire on the unarmed protesters. They answered signs, flags, flowers, chants and a few rocks thrown at them from over 300 feet with a barrage of over 200 bullets.

Update: Dobson flies over the coocoo’s nest

Thu May 03, 2007 at 01:05:42 PM PDT

Our good friend (sarcasm) James Dobson of the Focus on the Family organization has gone and done it again. He has once again lied to the American people and mislead all those mindless drones who call him a man of God.

Dobson is railing this time about HR 1592. The title of this bill is the Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2007 which would provide protection from hate crimes to a whole new group of people. You see, under the current hate crimes laws the federal government cannot get involved in the prosecution of hate crimes unless it rises to a certain level or involves a very specific group of people. This new law would broaden the scope of the law and allow for the federal government to prosecute more of those hate crimes.

Open letter to President Bush

Wed May 02, 2007 at 12:47:46 PM PDT

Mr. President,

I cannot believe that you once again imposed your will over that of the military commanders on the ground in Iraq, both houses of Congress and over 70% of the American people.

In the early going many on both sides of the aisle said that if the American people spoke up at some point and said that the war in Iraq must end that you would do the honorable thing and would listen and end the war. After all, you are an employee of the people of the United States. Right? Wrong!

Grover Cleveland a man of great integrity

Sun Feb 18, 2007 at 06:24:38 PM PDT

I am still a little gun shy about posting these profiles, but I will try one more time. Today I want to look at another Democratic President.

Grover Cleveland was born on March 18, 1837 to a Presbyterian minister in southern New York. Because his father was a minister, he moved around southern New York a lot as a child.

At the age of 19, Cleveland worked on the Presidential campaign of James Buchanan. Little did Cleveland know at the time, the next Democrat to be elected to the office of President would be himself almost 30 years later.

Cleveland was a lawyer and in 1870 he was elected Sheriff of Erie County, New York. While he was sheriff, he was responsible for hanging at least two convicted criminals. Instead of delegating the deed to one of his subordinates, he carried out the task himself.

The Democratic legacy of Pierce [Updated]

Sat Feb 17, 2007 at 11:01:22 AM PDT

Since it seems to be against the law to discuss a Republican President, I will profile a Democratic President this time.

Franklin Pierce was born on November 23, 1804 to a farmer and two time governor of New Hampshire. He was the seventh of eight children and spent his time as a child jumping from one school to another. While in school he met and became good friends with Nathaniel Hawthorne and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.

In 1824, Pierce graduated third in his class and went on to law school in Massachusetts. He was later admitted to the state bar in New Hampshire and worked for a time as a lawyer.

Silent Cal’s enduring legacy

Fri Feb 16, 2007 at 05:22:53 PM PDT

As we celebrate President's day, my mind is drawn to all the great Presidents of our past and the hope for more great men and women to fill that office in the future.

We all remember greats like George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Abraham Lincoln, but few remember men like Calvin Coolidge or Herbert Hoover.

I would like to look at John Calvin Coolidge Jr. today. He received the nickname of Silent Cal due to his shy demeanor and his thoughtful persona.

Westboro spreads hate at children's funeral

Fri Feb 09, 2007 at 11:52:39 AM PDT

It is bad enough that "Rev." Fred Phelps’ group of "Christians" protest at the funerals of soldiers who died in Iraq and Afghanistan but to protest at a civilian funeral for children? It is unconscionable!

Let me explain, on Tuesday February 6, 2007, ten people in Bardstown, Kentucky died in a house fire. Of those ten, six were children under the age of ten years old. The cause of the fire is still under investigation and the remaining family is left with the sad and difficult job of burying their loved ones.

To my new nephew (I am an UNCLE!)

Wed Jan 31, 2007 at 10:26:30 PM PDT

Breaking News: January 31, 2007 – I am an uncle for the first time! Little (an understatement) Jordan was 8lbs, 8oz. and 20 inches long! As cheesy as this may sound, I now present you with an open letter to my new nephew, Jordan.

Dear Jordan,

Welcome to our wonderful little planet! I say that it is little because in the cosmic scheme of things, we are nothing more than a small grain of sand. Yet, life can be so amazing at times.

A repeat of the Cuban Missile Crisis?

Sat Jan 20, 2007 at 06:35:03 PM PDT

In 1905 George Santayana said, "Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it." I wonder if he could see this moment in the future and that vision of the future is what inspired him to pen those words.

Of course, Santayana would have needed to see the Cuban missile crisis as well for this scenario to be accurate. For two long weeks in October of 1962, the United States (US) and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) played a game of high stakes chess using the tiny island nation of Cuba as their ultimate staging ground for a war between them.

KSFO special broadcast - Whole show [MORE UPDATES]

Fri Jan 12, 2007 at 01:04:17 PM PDT

KSFO could not tell the truth if their lives depended on it.

They spent nearly ten minutes talking about how they support Muslims who are Americans and who are trying to build up America and not working to destroy our country. But then they went out of their way to stress that Rep. Ellison was appointed by the House leadership as chairman of the Judiciary Committee. They said that they have lost any confidence in the House because they appointed a Muslim to that post. Let me be clear, they believe it is ok for Muslims to live here, just as long as they do not attempt to enter public life in any noticeable way. Because in reality, they believe there are no true American-Muslims they all want to bring down the country. What bigots!

Bush and Hitler sitting in a tree...

Tue Jan 09, 2007 at 08:27:33 PM PDT

Well, there is one thing I can say for Tony Snow; he is certainly the good little Republican lap dog. Too bad he had to sale his soul to the devil in order to get the job he now has.

In what can only be described as disturbing, Mr. Snow this morning in his regular press briefing told the American people that the President does not believe there is a need for Congress anymore. He told us that the President is now our Supreme Ruler and that only he can make the decisions about this country’s future.

Congratulations Mr. Bush, you got your revenge

Fri Dec 29, 2006 at 07:21:29 PM PDT

Saddam Hussein is dead. He was murdered today by the Iraqi government with the assistance of the United States government.

Saddam was 69 years old at the time of his murder. He leaves behind a three wives three daughters and a son. Two of his sons from his first marriage preceded him in death at the hands of American soldiers.

Christmas Message

Mon Dec 25, 2006 at 08:19:34 PM PDT

And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. – John 1:5

The Light has arrived and our dark night is now as bright as the noon day sun. Jesus our Savior and the Savior of all mankind has come as child on this day to light our lives.

Merry Christmas and Buy, Buy, BUY

Sat Dec 23, 2006 at 01:25:14 AM PDT

I want to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas.

Despite all the information out there about how Christmas is under attack, I have seen very little evidence that it is under any attack that is more than usual. I mean, in all reality, Christmas has been "under attack" for years. Ramped commercialism and total disregard for others has replaced the notions of peace and goodwill toward all people.

Congrats to Cheney/Poe and shame on the religious right

Thu Dec 07, 2006 at 10:24:14 PM PDT

I want to take this time to congratulate Mary Cheney and her wife Heather Poe on the wonderful news that they expecting a child.

Despite all the harsh criticism that is being foisted upon them by the religious right, I feel that someone on the religious left should step up and congratulate them. It is truly wonderful news and they should be happy and proud.
